Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

  • Prepare and dispense medications for inpatients and outpatients, including unit doses, IV admixtures, cytotoxic agents, and emergency medications under pharmacist supervision
  • Enter and update medication orders in the computer system, assists with dispensing functions, and ensures accuracy through patient profile and bin checks
  • Deliver medications to nursing units, collects outdated meds, and reconciles discrepancies between pharmacy and nursing records.
  • Compound, package, and label medications, maintain proper inventory levels, and ensure compliance with safety and hazardous waste protocols
  • Communicate effectively by answering calls per policy, screening inquiries, and coordinating tasks to support daily pharmacy operations under pharmacist guidance

Skills & Qualifications

  • Current Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR) is required
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through PTCB or NHA required for all licensed after 2008 (within 6 months of hire or sooner if required by IL pharmacy practice act)
  • Relevant soft skills include attention to detail, communication skills, time management, teamwork and collaboration, and flexibility
