Resource for Expanded SNAP Requirements

JobReadyIL is a new, completely free platform that allows users to meet or supplement newly required work hours by completing online learning modules designed to support job readiness and professional development.

New SNAP Work Requirements:

Beginning February 1, 2026, Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDS) participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be subject to new work requirements in order to maintain their benefits.

Residents subject to the SNAP Work Requirement must, for an average of 20 hours per week (i.e., 80 hours per month), participate in paid or unpaid work; volunteer; engage in a work training program; or a combination of all three.

This new rule applies to adults:

  • Between 18 and 64 years old
  • Those who have no disabilities
  • Either have no children, or have children who are 14 or older
  • Are not the primary caretaker of an adult who needs help caring for themselves
  • Are not in a drug or alcohol treatment program
  • Are not enrolled at least part-time in a school or college

The Cook County Manufacturing Apprenticeship Accelerator connects job seekers with available “earn and learn” positions in the manufacturing industry, including apprenticeships. This “concierge service” helps manufacturers identify and screen candidates while providing participants with career support and other resources during their first 90 days on the job.

Credential & Career Coaching

Our Credential & Career Coaching team supports individuals who have recently earned certifications, as well as those seeking to obtain credentials.  The program provides job readiness training, including resume building, interview preparation, and personalized guidance throughout the hiring process. Participants also benefit from coaching and mentorship to strengthen their employment prospects. Upon completion, qualified candidates are connected with employer partners actively hiring in their field. Like all services provided by Skills for Chicago, this program is free for job seekers.
